Interior Design in Tampines

Four of the HDB homes in our portfolio are in Tampines, from 1980s blocks to flats completed in 2024.

Two kinds of brief

Tampines is one of Singapore’s largest HDB towns, and its flats split into two very different renovations: decades-old resale flats and brand-new BTOs.

  • 1980s resale flats

About half of the town’s 87,000 flats are in blocks completed in the 1980s, the oldest in 1981. Work there usually starts behind the walls, with wiring, piping and worn finishes, before any design decisions.

  • New BTO flats

Almost three in ten Tampines flats are in blocks completed since 2010, and more are coming. With a new flat there is nothing to hack out, so the budget goes on carpentry, lighting and finishes.

  • 4-room and 5-room layouts

Around 38,000 of the town’s flats are 4-room and nearly 24,000 are 5-room. The layout decisions, which walls can move and where storage goes, are made before anything is drawn.

  • Permits handled

HDB renovation permits are part of the project, whether the flat is forty years old or four months old, so you are not the one chasing approvals.

Our Tampines homes

Two of the four are new flats. 665B Tampines on Tampines Street 64 and 951C Tampines on Street 96 are both in blocks completed in 2024, so each was the flat’s first renovation. The other two, 133 Tampines and 156 Tampines, are in blocks built in the 1980s.

The four could hardly look less alike, from Scandinavian minimalist to modern classic. The estate decides the brief, but not the style.

If you are waiting on a Tampines BTO, the February 2026 exercise included Tampines Nova and Tampines Bliss, and our upcoming BTO launches page tracks what comes next. Buying resale instead? What a resale renovation costs sets out what $30,000, $50,000 and $80,000 buys in an older flat.

Town figures are from HDB’s property information on data.gov.sg.
